Thanks to many generous benefactors and sponsors, the RTA School of Media is able to offer many scholarships, bursaries, and awards to its students. Below is a list of those that are currently available for first year students. Please note some might be program or course specific.
The deadline to apply is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14th, 2018. Applications can be dropped off in Donna Morrison's mailbox in the Main RTA Office (RCC 104) throughout the summer or upon your return to campus.

Alison Gordon Memorial Award in Sport Journalism: Named for pioneering Toronto Star baseball writer, Alison Gordon, this award will reward a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year Sport Media student who produces the best written sports feature. Preference will be offered to female students.
Bill Roberts Award of Excellence: The Bill Roberts Award of Excellence is given to a student who has demonstrated an interest in the study or impact of ethics or spirituality or faith in media.
Fairchild Scholarships: Fairchild Radio wishes to encourage the development of multicultural awareness and understanding among individuals entering the broadcasting industry through the establishment of this special scholarship program in the RTA School of Media at Ryerson University.
Glenn Sarty Memorial Award: Donated by Ms. Naomi P. LaCroix, the Glenn Sarty Memorial Award is for a full-time undergraduate student in RTA, in good standing, who has demonstrated excellence or interest in pursuing a career in investigative and public affairs television or documentary media.
Henry Shannon Award: In honour of long-serving Canadian radio broadcaster henry Shannon, this award is given to the student in their 2nd or 3rd year who has achieved the highest academic standing in RTA 951- Presentation
Johnny Lombardi Creative Endowment Award: The Johnny Lombardi Creative Endowment is designed to provide awards to undergraduate and graduate RTA students engaged in music, journalism or related studies that explore and define the reality of our multicultural society.
Joana Fraser Award: This award is in honour of Joana Fraser, a second year RTA student who died of cancer in April 1994. This award reflects both Joana’s creativity and unflinching determination to face what life dealt her.
Lori Beckstead Award for Community Development: Funded by RTA faculty member, Lori Beckstead, and her husband Dave Rose, this award will defray travel costs for an RTA student undertaking a volunteer trip for the purpose of international/community development in a developing country or community.
Marci Ien & Dwight Drummond Award: To support students in the RTA School of Media who are from under-represented and marginalized communities and show great potential in the fields of media production, sport media or new media.
The university values the fair and just treatment of all community members through the creation of opportunities and the removal of barriers to address historic and current disadvantages for under-represented and marginalized groups. This includes, but is not restricted to, women, racialized communities, people with disabilities and aboriginal peoples.
Rho Alpha Kappa Alumni Association Award: The Rho Alpha Kappa Alumni Association – started after “Canada’s only Professional Communications fraternity” shut its doors – offers this award in recognition of the student(s) who made a significant contribution to a sense of the RTA community.

Sportsnet Scholarship: This award recognizes students for their academic achievement in the Sport Media program and goes to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year student with the highest CGPA.
Stuart and Pat MacKay 'Good Citizenship' Award : To the student who has displayed significant volunteerism, or made a significant contribution to the betterment of the Ryerson or RTA community.
The Canadian Association of Broadcast Representatives Award:To provide finacial assistance and to recognize the enthusiasm of a Sport Media Student looking toward a career in marketing or sales.
The Charles and Marion Recupero Sport Media Documentary Award: This award was created by Joseph Recupero, a faculty member in the RTA Sport Media program, to recognize the best documentary produced by Sport Media students, and is named in honour of Joseph’s parents, who helped fund his University education. The purpose of this award is to raise the skills and aptitude of Sport Media students in the area of long form storytelling.
TSN Sports Feature Production Award: This award supports two undergraduate students enrolled full-time in 2nd or 3rd year of the Sport Media program who produce the best sports feature proposals.
Wilf Fielding Memorial Award in Live Special Events Production: This award is open to students in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th years of the RTA School of Media who has demonstrated interest and aptitude for live special events production.
